LWR Yoga Meetup

About Us

We are a community of over 300 yoga students and teachers dedicated to practicing in a supportive, noncompetitive environment, where all ages, fitness levels, shapes, sizes & genders feel welcome.  We believe that yoga is more than just exercise—it is a mindful way to relieve stress and heal the body, mind & spirit!

We come to the mat from a variety of yogic traditions, including Ashtanga, Iyengar, Hatha & Sivananda, and newcomers to yoga are always invited.  Classes range from relaxing Gentle & Restorative to flowing Vinyasa and athletic Core-Fusion, a blend of Yoga, Pilates & Barre.  Modifications are offered to accommodate injuries and make classes accessible and enjoyable for every body!

Since February 2017 we have held hundreds of yoga classes and special events, including Yoga & Wine Tasting, Outdoor Yoga, Summer Solstice & Autumnal Equinox celebrations, and our sunset Winter Solstice Candlelight Holiday Class & Party!

Yogi's

Sharyn Zuch

Certified, Insured Yoga Instructor (RYT 200)

Certified in Power Yoga since 2009, Sharyn’s love affair with yoga began over 25 years ago, at a gym in Tampa. A runner, tennis player and weight lifter, she wandered into a yoga class seeking relief from sports injuries and hasn’t left the mat since!  Sharyn calls herself a “yoga mutt” because she has trained in a variety of yogic traditions, studying with Beryl Bender Birch and David Swenson (Power/Ashtanga), Rodney Yee and Kofi Busia (Iyengar), Ana Forrest (Forrest Yoga), Seane Corn (Vinyasa Flow), Sarah Powers (Yin/Yang), Todd Norian (Anusara), and Jonathan Urla (Yogilates). She blends the best of these traditions into a mind body experience that is sensitive to the needs of busy, active adults who may be working with injuries. Sharyn’s classes are athletic and dynamic, challenging both the mind and the body, yet ever conscious of safe form and proper alignment. Core training and Sharyn’s unique, graceful balancing sequences round out the practice, ending with guided relaxation. Locally, Sharyn taught Power Yoga, Vinyasa Yoga & Core-Fusion classes at Yoga Body & Soul from December 2015 until the studio closed in February 2017.  Since then, Sharyn has taught weekly classes at Lakewood Ranch Yoga Meetup and is its Founding Organizer (along with Melanie Queen and Karen Stollon).

Karen Stollon

Certified, Insured Yoga Instructor (RYT 200)

I found yoga by chance in 2005 after attending a class with a friend. The benefits of yoga, improved strength, flexibility and calmness, opened my eyes to change the way I age.

I have been teaching yoga since graduating from the Davenport School of Yoga in June of 2009 with a 200-hour RYT designation. I taught at the Davenport School of Yoga and Indigo Health and Wellness in Moline, Illinois. When my husband and I moved to Sarasota in 2013, I began teaching Slow Flow yoga at Yoga Body & Soul in Lakewood Ranch.

My goal is to bring the benefits of yoga to everyone. My classes are a gentle blend of the styles of all my teachers, with an emphasis on Hatha and Vinyasa.  I hope you will try my class, keeping in mind that people of all ages, body types and fitness levels can do yoga and benefit from it!

Melanie Queen

Certified, Insured Yoga Instructor (RYT 200)

Certified in Sivananda yoga, Melanie has 15 years’ experience teaching Hatha, Restorative, and Yin Yoga. All ages, fitness and experience levels benefit from “touching the softness” in her nurturing, relaxing Yin and Restorative classes. More recently, Melanie has been drawn to Vinyasa yoga, where students enjoy moving with breath through graceful, challenging sequences in her Gentle Flow classes. Melanie has attended many training workshops and seminars through Omega Institute, Yoga Alliance and Urban Bliss School of Yoga. Since relocating here to the Ranch in 2016, Melanie has been studying Barre & Pilates techniques and has incorporated some of these sculpting practices into her Gentle Yoga for Strength classes.

Melanie has trained in Natural Healing methods and attained the second degree in Reiki. She brings this loving touch to her adjustments and plans to continue her Reiki training. Originally from California, Melanie loves the abundant sunshine and water sports available on Florida’s west coast. Off the mat, Melanie and her husband, Harold enjoy long bike rides on the Heritage Trail and kayaking with their grown children.
